  • "True Detective" Finale
An interesting read on the finale of True Detective viewed against the Detection Club’s rules for stories, that doesn’t quite make the case for the arguement it presents, but has a good go. Much like True Detective.

“The trouble is that monsters have a lineage too, and our monsters have changed … Monster, as every English professor likes to remind us, comes from the same root as demonstrate: a monster is supposed to mean, to signify, to instruct.”

Another great Lili Loofbourow article with a comparison of True Detective and Louie, and the way in which Louie uncovers a monster. Louie is as horrifying as True Detective – and it’s a comedy(?).

“Louie is sketching out the psychology of an abuser by making us recognize abuse in someone we love. Someone thoughtful and shy, raising daughters of his own, doing his best. Someone totally cognizant of the issues that make him susceptible to the misogyny monster. Someone who thinks hard about women and men and still gets it badly wrong.”

    Great looking quiche
