Prime Suspect made this glossy, soulless thriller look old 20 years ago

127 Hours – ★★★☆☆
– enjoyable second viewing

Sightseers – ★★★☆☆
– fun dark British horror comedy

The Pixar Story – ★☆☆☆☆
– more showreel than story

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – ★★★☆☆
– uneven, some great moments (Clémence Poésy), some awful (Quidditch)

Pandorum – ★★★☆☆
– interesting deep space survival horror

Sound City – ★★★☆☆
– Dave Grohl’s history of Sound City and a future for the analog recording desk

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes

Avengers Assemble (2D*)★★★★☆
– here’s hoping for a Scarlett Johansson** Black Widow film

Tilt, The Battle to Save Pinball★★☆☆☆
– prefer Liam Neeson’s B movie choices to Wahlberg’s

Grizzly Man★★★☆☆
– couldn’t watch this before walking in the U.S

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows★★☆☆☆
– so so sequel

The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans★★☆☆☆
– if you don’t mind Cage

Damages (tv) – ★★☆☆☆
– second go on series one

Death Row (tv) – ★★★★☆ / Into the Abyss ★☆☆☆☆
Death Row offers a compelling insight into the subject. Into the Abyss, concentrating on a single gruesome trailer trash tragedy (plus a death row harpy interview), is just depressing.

* Still cheaper than 3D, thankfully
** “And until [The Avengers] I didn’t understand the appeal of Scarlett Johansson, who always seemed more of a sleepwalker than an actor to me. But in The Avengers she was able to bring off deadpan comedy that made me actually enjoy watching her perform.” – Orson Scott Card, Avengers and On the Set of Ender’s Game
