Robert Scoble – Facebook, Twitter and Google and a roach motel

A Robert Scoble article discussing the open web, and how we lost it. How Facebook and the like have everyone because they are easy to use, and the web, the real web, where people make and write web pages and the like, isn’t easy to use and your mamma can’t use it, so why worry that we’ve lost it? Go where the audience is. It’s too late.

Sadly, trying to get pages on his website to load is near impossible, they keep timing out. Probably no big conspiracy, just traffic. But it does highlight the fact that Facebook (which I’m no fan of) and the like may be data traps, but they are simple to use, and there are a team of people making sure the servers stay up. Unlike a personal website.

Still. I liked it when people made websites – when they didn’t have to. Just for fun. Because we could. Hate to see the web become like TV, regulated and passive and a one way medium. Youtube as the new Boob tube.
